The story of Parker's birth

Parker finally made it here December 7, 2009 at 10:45 pm. He weighed 8 lbs 4 oz and was 20 1/2 in.
On Sunday at midnight we went to the hospital. I was having contractions, but I wasn't sure if they were strong or close enough together so we sat outside the delivery doors for a while to decide if we should go in or not. I didn't want them to send us home so I had to think about it. I finally decided just to go in. I had been dialated to a 3 and 80% effaced for about 2 weeks already. When they checked me again I was dialated to a 4-5 and fully effaced so they checked me in. By about noon on Monday I was still only at a 5 so they broke my water and started me on the epinephrine to get things moving.
I started to push at 6:00 pm thinking that Parker would be here in no time. Well, I was way wrong. I pushed for 4 hours! It was long and tiring and by 10:00 pm I was so exhausted. Parker was stuck in my pelvis and he was turned the wrong way. My Doctor tried to turn him, which is extremely painful even with the epidural, but Parker just turned back. My Doctor said we had 2 options: 1- for me to keep pushing (which was impossible since I didn't have anything left in me to push anymore) 2- to have a C-Section. He couldn't use forceps because it would hurt both Parker and me and it was too dangerous. I opted for option 2 to have a c-section.
They wheeled me into the operating room and got started. I couldn't keep my eyes open and was totally out of it by then, but I tried to pay attention to what was going on. When they finally started I thought they were ripping my stomach and all of my insides out. I couldn't feel any pain, but I could feel the pushing, pulling, stretching, sucking and who knows what else they were doing. The nurse told us after that there was no way I would have been able to push him out. He was stuck in my pelvis and they almost had to use a vacuum to get him out. She said she had the vacuum in her hands when they finally pulled him out.
He didn't cry at all the whole time we were in the operating room. My mom was in the operating room with me since Dave passes out when he sees blood. To my surprise though he did come in while they were stitching me up so he could meet Parker. He just had to be careful not to look at the table because they hadn't cleaned anything up yet.
I finally got to meet him when they wheeled me back to my room and they held him next to me so I could look at him. I was so out of it by then from lack of sleep and total exhaustion that I didn't really understand that they were holding my new son up to me. It finally felt real the next day when I was actually able to hold him and look at him.
I stayed in the hospital until Friday morning when we finally got to come home.
